We ended up with such clean outside of a van but dirty inside with other renter's masks still in the pockets. Our Jeep Grand Cherokee was to be $488.29. Our daughter was to get a Suburban and was again upgraded for a fee. We are next in line with no Jeeps left and told we can upgrade to a mini van for a fee. The man in front of me was renting a small vehicle and told they are none left or clean so he needed to upgrade to a Jeep or a Tacoma pickup truck for a fee. My daughter is an attorney, and we are contacting the Utah Attorney General. After the horrendous scam at Salt Lake City airport by Budget that happened to many as we could see, we will never do so again. We have always rented through Budget rental. It added over $250 to what was supposed to be a $575 rental. I am reporting them to the better business bureau and the Utah AG for deceptive business practices and fraud. When I called Budget to complain, they told me the SLC location is independently operated and not affiliated with Budget. When we finally took the only car available and walked into the garage, we saw numerous models in our category available. It is a scam to hold you hostage from starting your trip unless you agree to pay upgrade charges. ![]() ![]() After waiting over 1 hour, they still did not have any cars other than upgrades. Magically, the car you rent is not available but the upgraded version is. ![]() They did the same thing to the person in front of us and my parents behind us. The upgrade rate stated at $60 a day but they negotiated down to $50 after I pushed back on why we needed to pay more for a car when the one we reserved was not available. We would have to wait an undetermined amount of time of could upgrade. Despite having a reservation, when we showed up to pick up at our reserved time, we were told that the SUV we rented (a third row SUV to accommodate luggage and passengers) was not available.
